Controlled Drug (CD) Licence

If your company or organisation wishes to possess, manufacture, produce or supply controlled drugs in Great Britain, a valid domestic CD licence must be obtained first, before applying for a licence to import and/or export CDs if import /export activities are required.

A Home Office application for a CD licence is required. Controlled drug and precursor chemical licences/registration are:

• Valid for one year.
• Issued to a specific company’s premises.
• Schedule and activity specific, for example Schedule 2- possess & supply.
• Category, substance and activity specific.
• Not transferable between premises or across drug schedules.

Conditions may be dependent on schedules and activities and others are specific to the individual case situation. Conditions are not for negotiation.

Holders of a WDA(H) or MIA will also need to submit a licence variation to deal with narcotic or psychotropic product.
